How to: Update Your Repetitive Work Wardrobe

by Hayley Cooper, Personal Fashion Stylist

It’s easy to continue with the same rotation of work outfits each week, but with a few key items added in, you could elevate your work wardrobe instantly. Stick to your core staples of shirts, well-fitting pants and a classic blazer, but add some personality in the texture, cut or print.

Here’s what you need to update your repetitive work wardrobe:

1. White Shirt with Fun Pants

This outfit combination is essentially a white shirt paired with a pair of block coloured pants, it’s the small details here that really make this outfit. Option for a white shirt with fun sleeve details and texture in the fabric. Having a pair of high rise pants makes for easy tucking, and an adjustable tie on the ankle serves as a functional way to create length or shorten the pants, all whilst looking like a cool fashion feature. With so much detail in the shirt and pants, let’s keep the accessories minimalistic and neutral with a simple belt and pair of points.

2. Multi-Use Items

This rust Aje trench coat can be worn entirely open on the weekend or worn with the sleeves removed and as a sleeveless dress for Sunday brunch. For the office, keep the sleeves attached as we have done, perfect for transeasonal spring weather or those days in the office when the air-con is a little too much. Transition this piece into a whole new look by removing the sleeves and wearing it as a wrap top with a high rise pair of pants. Compliment the bold hue with softer shades of pastel blue, an unexpected accessory that adds the next level of interest to your look.

3. Modern take on a Corporate Suit

Consider a modern take on a corporate suit that can take you through client meetings, delivering presentations or going to that new job interview. Look for separate items that can be worn with other items in your wardrobe, like a blazer you can wear on top of your favourite work dress, or a pair of pants that work with all of your tops. Invest in a good quality top made for layering underneath blazers and light neutral accessories that will work seasonally all year round.

4. Statement piece for work events (and the weekend!)

Investing in one item that you can wear for work and social events is a smart way to get the most value from your purchases. You can easily wear this to a work function, after work drinks, or even to a wedding. The lightweight cotton fabric makes this a comfortable one to wear when it’s warm, easy to pack in the travel bag for work events or for your after work outings. This classic print never goes out of style and is one you will own for years to come. Add depth and compliment the print with black and gold accessories to bring the look together.
