Meet Elias from Rembrandt

Tell us a bit about your business?
Rembrandt has been around since 1946. With the arrival of several Dutch tailors to New Zealand, today Rembrandt is the market leader in the manufacturing of men's fashion, tailored clothing, made to measure suits. Carried in over 250 stores in Australia and New Zealand.
What is your position and who works for Rembrandt?
I am the Retail Manager, with over 25 years in this industry. All the Macquarie Centre staff are trained customer service representatives, with extensive product knowledge and experience in tailoring and fitting. To work in our store, training is highly important as we are not simply selling disposable clothing. Customers expect the full service from product selection, to fitting, to tailoring, to re-fitting. They expect nothing short of the best.
What is the best part about your job?
Customer satisfaction, seeing the final product on our customers.
What is the most unusual request you have had from a customer?
We love meeting all different types of people, nothing unusual but seeing some of the requests some customers ask for is always fun. A common example is customers requesting colourful suits like pink, orange or purple suit. We once had a 95-year-old man visit us to have a lilac and green suit made for his next cruise. That was fun and would have been a good cruise to be on.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
FAMILY, FAMILY, FAMILY, EXERCISE, OH DID I MENTION FAMILY. When I'm not at work I love just being with my wife and three kids.
What was your first job?
When I was 14 years old, I worked at my local butcher after school. This is where I learnt the art of exceptional, not just good customer service! The owner always had a clean store with great product and knew all his customers by name, their regular orders and genuinely loved chatting with them.
What is on trend right now?
We have been selling a lot of sports coats, chinos these days. In saying that our motto is ‘keeping classic cool” – the classic look will never go out of fashion.
What is your favourite season and why?
Winter, because layers is what it is all about. Just like we have comfort foods in Winter, we have comfort clothing. Looking good but also feeling warm and comfortable
What are staples in your wardrobe?
Black, Charcoal, Navy, then add patterns and pieces of colour.
What makes your store unique/different?
We have been around since 1946 and with that history comes expert knowledge of product, fit, tailoring. We are extremely experienced in our industry in fitting our customers. Our products are manufactured from Italy, Brazil, Portugal, Turkey, China, Australia and of course our factory and head office in New Zealand. The fabrics which we use come from Italy, England, Australia and of course New Zealand wool.
How has your business adapted throughout COVID-19?
We have always offered a clean and sanitised environment, with appointments available for fitting and delivery if requested. We also monitor the number of customers in store at any one time and make sure they, as well as ourselves are always sanitising and keeping our distance. When fitting we are also asking our customers if they would prefer to wear a face mask or have sales staff wear one.
How have you supported the community throughout this period?
Rembrandt have always donated our older product to charities to dress those in need at the end of each season, and we continue to do this through COVID.

Rembrandt is located on Level 3.
