Macquarie Centre Sustainability Update

It has been a busy few months for the Macquarie Centre sustainability team. Our mission is to pioneer all green initiatives for the centre and as such, we have a number of exciting projects in the pipeline:

Green Space Opportunity:
We have recently begun the process with a third-party local sustainability partner Good for the Hood, to understand the local needs for a green community space within Macquarie Centre.

Bin Trim:
As some of you may know, the centre has engaged Edge Consulting to work with us on sustainability initiatives – namely around waste management. Thanks to the efforts of all of our F&B tenants in March, organics recycling increased by 50% from February – in other words an additional 10 tonnes of organics waste was diverted away from landfill. Not only is this great for the environment but it reduces the costs of waste which reduces the amount we charge you for outgoings. We will keep you posted of other ways you can work with us to improve in this area.

Retailer spotlight: L’Occitane TerraCycle Recycling Program
In order to continually reduce their environmental impact, L’Occitane have partnered with TerraCycle to make their used products nationally recyclable. Simply bring ANY beauty, skin care, or hair packaging to L’Occitane  Macquarie Centre (Level 2)  and they will fully recycle this for you. Not only is this fabulous for the environment but you are also eligible to receive a 10% discount on the purchase of one new product in store!

We are always on the lookout for other ways we can improve sustainability in the centre. If you have any more ideas or would like to chat about this please email  Mat Erwin, Assistant Centre Manager to arrange a time.
