Everything you need in OUR STORES

Set yourself up for a guilt-free season

With the silly season just around the corner, your will power is starting to weaken – as thoughts of tempting canapés and refreshing summer cocktails send your tastebuds into a spin.

Now is the perfect time to lay a few ground rules so you sail through summer in optimum health, and with minimal guilt. Here are just a few tips to keep in mind as you pull out your party frocks and get ready to celebrate.

1. H20 – the best hydration

When it comes to drinks, there’s nothing better than a cold glass of water. Sure, you can enjoy a cocktail or two – but by balancing it out with plenty of water you’ll wake up the next day feeling great. And by limiting your drinks, you’ll be doing your waistline a favour, too.

2. Don’t dive in when it comes to canapés

Deep-fried morsels are very tempting, particularly when you’ve got a drink in hand. If it’s available, reach for the fresh food instead – sushi, sandwiches, salads. Also, it’s a good idea to have a low-GI snack like yoghurt or a piece of fruit before the event – too often, you arrive at parties ravenous and with zero will power left in you.

3. Have a nutritious start to the day

A healthy breakfast has never been more important – to kick-start your metabolism and give you the energy to party all over again. Try loads of fresh fruit over Swiss muesli, a glass of OJ, and a piece of wholemeal toast. You’ll be raring to go again in no time.

4. Eat your way out of hangovers

As well as a healthy breakfast, you can make a few tweaks to your overall diet to help avoid the dreaded silly season hangover. Try foods rich in Vitamin B, C and Zinc – think avocado, nuts, legumes, fish, wholegrains, berries, green leafy vegetables and red meat.

5. Get active

Just because your social calendar is jam-packed, it doesn’t mean you can’t make room for exercise. Set it as a priority – it will keep you feeling fit and healthy, and make it easier to justify that slice of cake or extra canapé.

So commit these rules to memory and stick by them this silly season. Your body will thank you for it!
